The renewable energy sector is fast becoming a major part of how we create and generate electricity. It will continue to grow in the future and is backed by the government as a key growth area in a bid to reduce carbon emissions and make better use of new green technologies.
Renewable energy is created by combining modern technologies and natural resources such as sunlight, wind, tides, waves and geothermal (underground) heat.
Those working in the industry normally specialise in a particular field, although people working in a domestic setting may be trained to install and maintain variety of equipment, including solar panels and underground heat source pumps.
Often people working in the renewables industry have a background in electrical installation or plumbing, although this is not essential. Apprenticeship opportunities are also beginning to emerge as the sector continues to grow.
