Barbers provide full hairstyling services normally within a barbershop. Services include cutting, colouring, trimming and shaping hair, beards and moustaches.
Day-to-day duties include carrying out consolations with clients, styling and cutting hair, maintaining a clean shop and working to promote the barbershop and encourage new clients.
Barbershops can be busy places and you may be required to work evenings and weekends to meet customer demands.
To become a barber, you will need to have good customer services skills, an eye for details and have a creative awareness of fashion and trends.
College's now offer specific barbering courses alongside traditional hairstyling courses. Apprenticeship opportunities may also be available.
